President's Message - May '25

President's Message,

Thank you to all you who came to Charlotte! Truly, thank you. Thrilled to announce that our Conference was a resounding success!

Not only did we share groundbreaking ideas and forge valuable connections, but we also discovered that contractors, erectors, metal building manufacturers, and insulation suppliers can, in fact, change a tire! (no real chance of a NASCAR pit-crew side hustle though!) A special shoutout to the brave souls who participated in the golf tournament – who knew that finding material for heckling could be so easy! Well, the “Hole Hecklers” are professionals!

Key highlights:

Sasha Demyan: Founder Inductee to Metal Construction News Hall of Fame.

Opening Remarks and Keynote Speaker: Caleb Campbell, a former NFL linebacker and West Point graduate, shared his story and support for us in navigating uncertainty and leading with purpose.

Awards Ceremonies: MBMA's Safety Awards, MBCEA's Building of the Year Awards, and the Metal Construction News Metal Construction Hall of Fame induction. (this is where I imagine you standing for another ovation for both Ironhide Construction (Building of Year Winner) and our Sasha’s induction!)

Educational Sessions: I hope you clocked time in every session. Literally wire-to-wire full of practical, subject matter expert shares. Did you participate in the Project Overview with David Leinbach (VP, MBCEA, Owner, Kaiser Martin Group) and Dan Halme (Tech Committee and Accreditation Committee Chair, Owner, Halme Construction)? Need/want their presentation? Check out the Members Only Area.

In the Roundtable Session I promised to share the MBMA BIM LOD FAQ. Click here.

Networking Opportunities: Multiple sessions and receptions designed for attendees to connect with industry peers and exhibitors. As you packed away the business cards, let's not forget the most important takeaway: Did you export your leads from the MBCEA App?

Fun: The Stock Car Pit Crew Challenge…Did you (to be read with your best air gun sound) Zzzzt Zzzzt? The team of Trenda, Bill, Talena and Justin hosted 22 crews safely and elevated the competition! Fun fact: of the 22 Teams registered, and properly PPE'd, 12 had the word (or a version of) “Nuts” in it. The winner, “Saggy Nutz” posted a time of 9.23 seconds. WOW. Congratulations, Saggy boys, Tony Downs, Chris Lee, Nolan Knuppel and Ty Downs; your awards are on their way!

A call out to the second and third place crews:

(2nd 9.49s) “Gone Nuts” Jarrod Turner, Nolan Knuppel, Dylan Seyler, and Hector Garza

(3rd 9.65s) “Nezz Nuts” Nolan Knuppel, Orris Schlabach, Bryan Turner, and Nigel Nestor

Nolan, you may just have a shot at a real Stock Car Pit Crew!

I know I did not capture it all, so if there is a call out you want to make, call me, and It will make next month's newsletter!

Thank you for reading this, and raise your mouse, your mechanical pencil, or your hand (to join a committee)…Here's to the safety, innovation, and power of the collaboration of our membership, and our industry!!

Be Safe, Be Great,

Robert Tiffin
