President's Message - Mar '25

President's Message,

The world is catching on…we have traction on our want to have building specifiers call out an AC472 Accredited Manufacturer and have an AC478 Contractor or Erector assemble it.

Want proof?

If you ask Google, “why should an architect specify an AC472, etc,” this is what “it” replies:

An architect might specify an AC472 (Metal Building Systems Inspection Accreditation) manufacturer and an AC478 (Metal Building Assembler Inspection Accreditation) erector for a metal building project to ensure quality, safety, and adherence to industry standards, backed by independent verification and accreditation.

Then, the following search results are listed: (not counting the sponsored)

Specify IAS Accredited Metal Building Contractors & ...

The International Accreditation Service https://www.iasonline.org

“Specify companies that are accredited for IAS AC472 to design and fabricate metal building systems.”

Now, we (kind of expect) IAS to promote, as they are our Accreditation Service. Don’t know who they are? Please attend our next AC478 Roundtable and learn more, and use the venue for asking questions!

Second: The MBCEA: “Architects, specifiers, builders and owners can order a metal building system designed and fabricated by an IAS-accredited metal building systems company.”  Well, we know they, I mean we, are wee but biased.

Third: Now this one carries weight: (safely of course, but weight nonetheless)

Building officials benefit from IAS AC472 and AC478 …

International Code Council – ICC https://www.iccsafe.org › BSJ

“AC472/478 accreditation means a building system that meets code guidelines from design and manufacturing through erection.”

The ICC gets it.

Now, the final share, and it's big! The MBMA board has a proposal in front of them for their next meeting. Have their high-profile customers (those mutli-state/national customers with 2025 plans for multiple expansive buildings) specify that ONLY an AC478 accredited contractor or erector can be used.

So, not yet accredited, or don’t know some of the other benefits of the AC478 accreditation? Sign up for the next roundtable, or email me, and I will introduce you to the topic, and your accreditation ambassador Jackie Meiluta!

Did you read this like a bit of a pitch? Good. Get Accredited.

Looking forward to seeing you in Charlotte in May. Will love to talk with you more!
