I look forward to this issue every year! Predictably, Span Construction & Engineering Inc., Madera, Calif., tops the list of largest metal builders. And builders such Briner Building Inc., Bluffton, Ind., Fleming Steel Erectors, Tulsa, Okla., MAR Building Solutions, Lee's Summit, Mo., Dunn Building Company LLC, Birmingham, Ala., Rainwater Construction Co., Atlanta, and Septagon Construction Co., Sedalia, Mo., are all there too.
Do you know what else they have in common? They are all members of the Metal Buildings Contractors & Erectors Association (MBCEA).
Congratulations to everyone listed in the following pages. I strongly encourage all top metal builders to join the MBCEA. Your commitment to quality construction is what keeps our industry thriving. If you aren’t currently a member, please consider this:
Quality Recognition with AC478: MBCEA needed a way to recognize professional, quality driven contractors and erectors that stand above the crowd like the builders on the Top Metal Builder list. We crafted the most comprehensive quality assurance accreditation of its kind for metal building assembly. It is administered by the International Accreditation Service (IAS). We provide free assistance and access to hundreds of templates and documents to help your firm achieve the coveted IAS mark of quality. This program is not just about certifying your workers; it is about creating a management system that helps you run your business better. It is about getting the recognition you deserve. It is also about marketing your company and winning projects.
Marketing Opportunities: Members get high visibility placement in our searchable directory, which is used worldwide by companies seeking contractors and erectors. Have a gap in your schedule or need some supplemental labor? Members can quickly reach a broad audience of metal building assemblers with our free crew sourcing ads. We host building-of-the-year competitions, and frequently feature members in our industry infomercials. Metal Construction News often comes to us for introductions to builders when they are chasing a story.
Training, Education and Workforce Development: Members have free access to the Metal Buildings Institute (MBI) “Quality and Craftsmanship” series—the only entry level training program exclusive to our industry. Other MBI offerings such as the “Temporary Bracing Guidelines,” training videos for IMP and retrofit are heavily discounted to MBCEA members. Regional chapters and the national organization regularly offer in-person training and online webinars. The members-only area of the website has copies or links to supplier and manufacturer training, as well as in-house developed training from your fellow members, plus toolbox talks and so much more!
We have partnered with National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) to develop a complete metal building curriculum that will be presented in an exciting new LMS software format, geared to the way young people learn today. MBCEA contractors and erectors are the subject-matter experts creating this million-dollar investment in our industry’s future that will have far-reaching benefits such as comprehensive training for field employees and workforce development through craft centers and trade schools.
Connections: Metal buildings and their assembly is a large industry but a somewhat niche market. The MBCEA provides a place for contractors and erectors to get together through chapters and our national conference and talk about problems and solutions specific to our industry. The MBCEA provides nationwide contacts that can help with labor, construction questions, business opportunities and more.
The best place to connect is at the MBCEA National Conference, taking place May 8-10 in Nashville. The conference is co-located with the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) and offers content geared to owners, project managers and field personnel. Where else can you get rigging and crane signal person training, while also learning about succession planning and business valuations? See new products and meet with vendors in our exhibit hall, all while enjoying the sights and sounds of Nashville with a few hundred of your friends, colleagues, competitors and vendors.
Hope to see you there!
