Metal Building Contractors & Erectors Association
Kansas Chapter

Greetings from the President of the MBCEA-KSBA (Kansas Systems Builders Association)

Welcome to the MBCEA-KSBA website. KSBA is one of the oldest chapters in the Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association. As one of the “Old Guys” we welcome the new chapters and members, and wish them much success. We have seen many changes over the years, and this website is one that will improve our visibility, and ability to communicate with members and prospective members. I hope this helps keep everyone abreast with what we are planning and doing to promote this industry.

Our Chapter is committed to the metal building industry and promoting our builder and associate members in our city, state, and region. We hold monthly general meetings through the fall, winter, and early spring months to promote networking with all builder and associate members invited to work together. You will discover new relationships that can benefit you and your company, if you care to make the effort. We typically have a speaker from our area, or community who has an interest in or working relationship with our membership, or sometimes just an area celebrity or sports figure. We encourage everyone to participate and meet some new people and visit with old friends and colleagues.

We are dedicated to training the new regime of metal building contractors and erectors. Through the use of the well designed and produced Quality and Craftsmanship DVD Training Series, our builders as well as associate members have the opportunity to learn the latest in safety and steel erection techniques, new products and equipment, and general business information. We have partnered together with the Kansas AGC chapter and started a metal building erection course which includes classroom, as well as hands-on training in the erection of metal buildings. The class also covers other important issues such as safety, power tools, math, and layout of the building. We also raise money with our annual golf tournament and barbeque, to help support a professorship for instruction in the metal building design and construction, at Kansas State University’s, Construction Science and Management course.

The metal building industry has come so far in the last 20-30 years. Metal buildings are used in so many structures that no longer look like everyone’s misconception of a “metal building”. Pre-engineered steel buildings are designed with a wide variety of exterior finishes, shapes, and even multi-story. These innovations make the MBCEA even more appealing to builders and associates alike, where everyone can draw on the experiences and mistakes of your peers to help everyone in the industry grow.

I have personally been involved in every aspect of the industry since 1975, from the footing work to the building erection, then as superintendent and general superintendent, and now as an estimator/project manager. It has been, and continues to be an exciting and ever changing part of a life long construction experience. The MBCEA-KSBA can help you realize your potential if you just get involved and rub elbows with everyone, and
learn from their experiences and share yours with them. Maybe we’ll even have a little fun along the way, with golf tournaments, baseball outings, and just getting together for the monthly general meetings. Check out our Schedule of Events to see what you are missing, and get involved TODAY.

I thank all of our current members for the opportunity to lead this chapter through this year, and I hope to strengthen our membership. I welcome any builders and associated companies alike to apply for membership today and begin helping yourself and the industry grow. Come and join us for one of our monthly general meetings and see what you are missing. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally, or anyone on the Kansas Board of Directors to get more information.

Sincerely,

Larry Bruna
